With more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property law, Thomas Paulius knows the ins and outs of patent, trademark and copyright matters. His civil engineering background gives him an advantage in his career because he already has extensive knowledge of various technologies. He joined the Law Offices of Konrad Sherinian in 2012 and focuses on patent prosecution in the food processing, consumer products, mechanical, and electrical technology fields.
Since graduating from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1982, Paulius has drafted 364 utility and design patents. He works hard to help clients get their patents approved and sometimes uses unorthodox strategies, like filing and obtaining design patents on processed foodstuffs. His nuclear power plant engineering background has helped him defend numerous municipalities and utilities against claims of infringement of a biofouling prevention patent.
Thomas also helps clients create trademarks that are unique and easy to register. He knows how to avoid developing unregistrable trademarks, saving his clients time and hassle. Thomas is a good listener and always focuses on satisfying his clients’ needs and goals.
When Thomas isn’t in court, he works as a freelance editorial photographer. His work has been published in various Chicagoland newspapers and magazines, and in national print and online magazines. While taking photos over the years, Thomas has learned about the different problems artists and photographers face when protecting their work, giving him even more advantage in his law career.
